Stripes on stairs look great but they are unforgiving. Every step has to be fitted so the stripes run straight across the tread and down the riser, and on the winders at the turn the carpet is cut and fitted step by step so the lines stay square.
The carpet goes down over a good underlay and is fitted tight round each nosing, and the hall floor below is finished neatly to the first step.
