Amtico is one of the best-known names in luxury vinyl, and herringbone is one of its most popular layouts. In an open-plan kitchen it runs through the whole space as one floor, which makes the room feel bigger and ties the kitchen and dining areas together.
Kitchens need a floor that copes with water, dropped pans and a lot of traffic between the sink, the hob and the table. LVT is warm underfoot, quiet and easy to wipe clean, and a herringbone pattern hides the odd crumb better than a plain floor.
The work starts with the base. Kitchens often have old tiles, uneven boards or a patched screed underneath, and LVT will show every bump, so it is levelled first. The herringbone is then set out from a true centre line, so the pattern runs straight past the island and the cuts at the walls are even, and every block is glued down and rolled.
