Doing the hall, stairs and landing together means the materials can be chosen to work with each other and the finishes meet cleanly at the bottom step.
On the stairs, the carpet goes down over a good underlay and is fitted tight into the back of each tread and round the nosing, so it stays neat and wears evenly. The hall floor is finished up to the first riser with a clean edge.
