Corridors take the heaviest traffic in an office, so the tiles are laid with the pattern running along the length of each one and cut tight at the skirting. Carrying the same tile into every room ties the building together.
Carpet tiles also make future changes easy: a tile can be lifted for a new cable run or replaced if it gets damaged, without disturbing the rest of the floor.
